Lee Harvey Oswald "I'm just a patsy!"

Lee Harvey Oswald has gone down in history as the alleged assassin of President John F. Kennedy.  He did not shoot anybody in Dallas, JFK or Dallas Police officer J. D. Tippit,  but he was a paid informant for both the FBI and CIA.  Lee Oswald was successful in infiltrating the different groups and he tried to stop the assassination but his numerous warnings of a pending assassination  were ignored.

Oswald: I have positively know nothing about this situation here.  I would like to have legal representation.

Reporter: (unintelligible)

Oswald: Well, I was questioned by a judge.  However, I protested at that time that I was not allowed legal representation during that very short and sweet hearing.  I really don't know what this situation is about.  Nobody has told me anything, except that I'm accused of murdering a policeman.  I know nothing more that that.  I do request someone to come forward to give me legal assistance.

Reporter: Did you kill the president?

Oswald: No, I have not been charged with that.  In fact, nobody has said that to me yet.  The first thing I heard about it was when the newspaper reporters in the hall asked me that question.

James Files in Texas - Photo taken by Lee Oswald!

Lee Oswald showed up at James Files motel in Mesquite, Texas, just outside Dallas, during the week prior to the assassination.  Files asked him to take a few pictures as they were heading out to "recon" the area of DealeyPlaza. Their mutual CIA controller David A. Phillips had sent Oswald to Files so he could "show him around the area."

James Files comments on Lee Harvey Oswald in book, Interview with History: The JFK Assassination.  Files said he  spent several days with Lee Oswald in Dallas before the assassination.    In the chapter  "James Files on Lee Oswald" Files tells of meeting Oswald once before in Clinton, LA when Files was on CIA business down there involving moving weapons to assist anti-Castro Cubans in "Operation Mongoose."   Two important figures in the operation were Robert Kennedy and Ed Lansdale.

James Files on Lee Oswald

Lee Harvey Oswald 1957

Who was Lee Harvey Oswald?

From age 2 to 24, the face of "Lee Harvey Oswald" underwent many puzzling changes.  The smiling freckled boy who evolved into an alleged presidential assassin was indeed a man of many faces...thick curly hair to receding straight hair...thick neck to thin neck...square chin to pointed chin.  Who was Oswald?  Why do some of the photos of him look so different than others?  Several photos seem to be clever composites...why?  Is the "birth Oswald" the same person as the "historical Oswald", or did one assume the identity of the other?  How many "Oswalds" were there, and why?  You be the judge.

This poster, created by assassination researcher Jack White, shows the many faces of Lee Harvey Oswald.  It also suggests the very real possibility that there may have been more than one person using the name.

What did James Files, Lee Oswald and Antonio Veciana have in common in 1963?

David Atlee Phillips "Maurice Bishop" as CIA "handler/controller"

The House Select Committe on Assassinations had a great deal of interest in Antonio Veciana, Mauice Bishop, and David Atlee Phillips.  Phillips, who died of cancer in 1988, despised President Kennedy and was seen with Lee Oswald in Dallas shortly before the assassination by Veciana.

Lee Oswald and David Ferrie

The summer of 1955 in New Orleans changed the course of Lee's life forever.  He was between the ninth and tenth grades when he and Edward Voebel were invited to twice-weekly meetings of the the student aviation organization of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) at LakefrontAirport by schoolmate Frederick O'Sullivan.  Lee was so enthusiastic about the organization that he got a newpaper route to earn money for a uniform.  His commander was Captain David William Ferrie, a pilot, rabid anti-communist, right-wing fanatic, and suspected homosexual pedophile.  Ferrie was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on March 28, 1918.  He was raised a devout Roman Catholic and attended St. Mary's Seminary in Cleveland, preparing to enter priesthood.

CIA Businessman Clay Shaw

Clay Shaw was a well-known business leader in New Orleans during the 1960's.  He was also a memeber of a small clique of gay men that included David Ferrie.  Shaw used the alias Clay Bertrand when he spent his evenings in the seedier bars of the French Quarter, but many people there knew his real identity.  Shaw had close ties to Guy Banister and his ring of anti-Castro Cubans, and knew Lee Harvey Oswald.     In January 1969, New Orleans district attorney Jim Garrison charged Shaw with conspiracy in the murder of President Kennedy.  He also charged that Shaw was a secret Central Intelligence Agency operative, a charge Shaw denied, but that was later confirmed as true.  Shaw was acquitted of the conspiracy charge, but in interviews following the trial, jurors conceded that Garrison had convinced them that a conspiracy was behind the assassination of President Kennedy.  Shaw died on August 14, 1974, and was quickly buried.  When New Orleans coroner, Dr. Frank Minyard, wanted to exhume the body to perform an autopsy, he was assailed by the local press and decided to leave the issue alone.  The trial of Clay Shaw is the major focus of Oliver Stone's film, JFK.

Was Lee Harvey Oswald involved in CIA MIND CONTROL?

Atsugi was more than just the air base form which U-2 spy flights originated.  According to Edward J. Epstein and Michael Benson, it was also one of the headquarters of a CIA mind-control program code named MK-ULTRA, which used LSD, mescaline, and other mind-altering substances to give the authorities control over chosen subjects.  The drugs limited subjects’ capability to resist authority and question the morality or justification of orders given.  (Who’s Who in the JFK Assassination)  Given Lee’s history of emotional problems and his behavior, it seems that he was the perfect candidate for this type of testing.

In October 1963, a man entered the office of New Orleans District Attorney Edward Gillen.  The visitor asked Gillen if he knew anything about the legality of importing a new drug known as LSD into the
United States.  The stranger said that he had a source for LSD and wanted to know if it might be illegal to sell it.  In 1963, one of the only known sources for
LSD was the CIA.  The agency had been experimenting with LSD in its program know as  Project Artichoke, which was in fact the CIA’s first “Manchurian Candidate” experiment in 1951.  The CIA performed experiments at two overseas military installations in the 1960’s.  One of these was Atsugi Air Base, where the agency regularly fed mescaline, sodium pentothal, depressants, amphetamines, and LSD to off-duty Marines both on base and at local bars.

One of these marine guinea pigs state, “It was pretty weird.  I’m eighteen at the time, and chasing all the whores in town, and these CIA guys are buying my drinks and paying for the whores and giving me a whole lot of drinks with lots of weird drugs in them.  Pretty soon all the shadows are moving around, we’re in this bar, see, and samurais are everywhere, and I started to see skeletons and things.  My mind just started boiling over, going about a thousand miles a minute.  I’m sure there are going to be some little old ladies who’re gonna be surprised that illegal drugs like heroin and LSD were freely used by government agents.  But, that’s just the way it was.”
Like 99 percent of the American public, Assistant D.A. Gillen had no concept that any of this was going on, and on that afternoon in October 1963 he thought the visitor was a crank.  However, while watching television the day after the assassination, Gillen was startled to see that Lee Oswald had been arrested and charged as the murderer of President Kennedy.  Lee Oswald was the same man who had visited him the previous month.

Evidence shows Oswald did not fire a rifle

Exhibit No. 35

The paraffin test taken of Lee Harvey Oswald, November 22, 1963.  This routine test is designated to show if nitrates are present on a subject to verify that he has discharged a firearm.  Oswald had a nitrate pattern on his hand consistent with the allegation that he fired the revolver which killed Officer Tippit. (James Files said the nitrates found in Oswald's hand are consistent with Lee picking up spent shell casings after he testfired some weapons and asked him to gather them up just days prior to the assassination. The person who shot Tippit came to his motel room after the assassination and it was not Lee Harvey Oswald. See below.  Oswald shot no one.)  A paraffin test taken of the right side of Oswald’s face did not reveal any nitrates from having fired a rifle, this offering no proof that Oswald had recently fired a rifle.

Lee Oswalds' Paraffin Test Negative - He did not shoot a rifle November 22, 1963

The EvidenceLee was given a paraffin test on the night of November 22, 1963 to reveal whether he had fired either a rifle or a handgun during the twenty-four hours prior to the test.  We are told that the results were positive for his hands but negative for his cheeks.  When a rifle is fired, the gunpowder of the bullet leaves a pattern of nitrate deposits on the face, notably the cheek, of the marksman.  If Lee had fired the rifle but then washed his face, the nitrate residue might have been washed off both his hands and his face.  However, since it is virtually impossible to wash your face without using your hands, and Lee’s hands tested positive, it is highly unlikely that he had fired a rifle on the day of the assassination. Traces of nitrates could have been left on his hands if he hand not washed them after urinating.  A positive result could have also been caused by ink from the book cartons he had been handling all morning.  Since the results did not prove Lee’s guilt but, rather, pointed to his innocence, the Warren Report said the test was unreliable.  The Search for Lee Harvey Oswald: A Comprehensive Photographic Record, Robert Groden, The Penguin Group, New York, 1995, p. 164-165.
